Inclusion and Diversity
Our Progress
In 2022, we partnered with Ted Rogers School of Management's Diversity Institute to conduct our first-ever Diversity and Inclusion Assessment to evaluate every aspect of our business. The assessment, together with Qualtric’s census-based survey for all Canada partners (employees) conducted in 2023, enabled us to build the next evolution of our Canada Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, helping to anchor the commitments we will make as part of a multi-year roadmap in 2024 and beyond.

Our Partners
Our partners are at the center of the Starbucks Experience and our culture has been built with a long line of partners who dared to make Starbucks a different kind of company.
Throughout our history, we've been dedicated to our mission: With every cup, with every conversation, with every community — we nurture the limitless possibilities of human connection.
Led by partners, for partners, Starbucks Partner Networks create moments of connection that promote diversity, foster inclusion and contribute to the success of our partners and our company. As we create the future of Starbucks, we are continuing to improve the partner experience so our partners can thrive — at work, individually and together. Core to this is ensuring that Starbucks is an inclusive, diverse, equitable and accessible company — a place where all are welcome, and a place where our partners know they belong.
Developing and maintaining an inclusive workforce
- Increasing Access to Mentorship: Co-created in 2020, MentorME provides mentorship opportunities for Black Canadians in various professional sectors and Indigenous youth in partnership with the business sector.
- Anti-bias curriculum: Developed with Arizona State University, we designed 15 courses available to the public at no cost.
- 100% Pay equity: We’ve consistently achieved gender and race pay equity in Canada since 2018.
Transparent Workforce
We pride ourselves in living our mission and values with a clear approach: real inclusion and belonging requires intent and is not defined only by metrics.
We are at the beginning of our journey to better understand the makeup of our workforce through the self-identification (Self-ID) of our partners. Our goal is to enhance our inclusion and diversity efforts through transparently sharing the makeup of our workforce publicly to reach a broader pool of candidates and talent that brings new perspectives and experiences to improve our business and workplace. To do this, we are prioritizing inclusivity in our recruitment practices, partner engagement, and continuing to provide opportunities for inclusive leadership training.
Community
We believe we have a responsibility to help create opportunity, advance equity and encourage economic growth in every community we serve.
Advancing equity in our communities:
- 700K+ youth impacted since 2020 through grants from The Starbucks Foundation across North America
- 10% of our store hires since 2015 come through Opportunity Youth and hiring young people ages 18-29 who are not working or in school
- 2,000+ refugees hired since 2017 in partnership with social agencies, government bodies, and other top employers in Canada
