Commitment Statement
At Starbucks Coffee Canada, we believe in fostering inclusive environments where everyone feels welcomed and respected. This commitment is woven into the very fabric of who we are as a company.
We acknowledge the ancestral and modern territories on which we live and work, and we are dedicated to building positive relationships with Indigenous communities. Our developing Indigenous relations strategy will focus on leadership, employment, business development, community partnerships, and education.
Our commitment to respect the rights, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples across Canada is clear, intentional, and continuous. As part of our commitment, we are embarking on a journey with the Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations (PAIR), through which we will further align our efforts with the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
We aim to continue integrating Reconciliation through our business in keeping with PAIR’s Four Pillars below:
- Leadership Actions: We aim to build trust and foster beneficial relationships with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples in and around the communities where we operate in Canada. Guided by the PAIR program principles, processes, and actions outlined we are committed to continuous and measurable progress in our journey.
- Employment: We will continue to create opportunities for Indigenous peoples within our workforce, ensuring equal access to employment, career development, and leadership roles. In addition, we commit to educating Starbucks partners (employees) about our shared history and Indigenous rights, fostering an informed and inclusive workplace, notably through the internal Canada Indigenous Partner Network (CIPN) founded in 2020.
- Business Development: We are committed to promoting Economic Reconciliation. We create sustainable opportunities, including licensed stores operated by local Indigenous communities and promoting participation in Indigenous-led conferences.
- Community Relations: We promise to contribute positively by supporting Indigenous-led initiatives. This includes collaborating with the internal Canada Indigenous Partner Network (CIPN) and leaders at Starbucks Canada to make a positive difference through community engagement and investments.
We remain committed to creating welcoming spaces and advancing belonging, equity, accessibility, and inclusion for all. Developing our Indigenous relations strategy in FY25 and beyond, we aim to deepen partnerships, expand initiatives, and make a meaningful impact in terms of Reconciliation.
