Miffy + Starbucks: A charming new merch collection hops into U.S. and Canada coffeehouses

The Miffy + Starbucks collaboration arrives in coffeehouses in the United States and Canada starting May 19. Inspired by the beloved character’s playful charm and simple design, the limited-edition collection includes a variety of colourful mugs, cold cups, tumblers, gift cards, plush toys and more made for savouring life’s little moments, while supplies last.

What does Starbucks have in common with one of the world’s most famous rabbits?

For Krystn Fuerst, who led the collaboration with Miffy for Starbucks, it’s their shared sense of joy and optimism that brought the coffee company together with the beloved bunny.

“With Miffy, we really felt a connection through her curiosity and gentle nature. I think that’s what people love about her,” Fuerst said. “We wanted her character to come alive through our signature drinkware to bring something new to Miffy fans and Starbucks customers.”

Starting May 19, Starbucks is launching the limited-edition Miffy + Starbucks collection that includes drinkware, water bottles, gift cards and an adorable plush. Miffy fans in the United States and Canada have been clamoring for the collaboration after seeing their launch in Singapore and Asia Pacific.

Miffy’s story began in 1955 when Dutch artist and graphic design artist Dick Bruna first drew the character to entertain his son, Sierk, on a rainy day. What began as a series of picture books has grown to make Miffy a beloved character around the world. In the books, the little bunny girl is depicted as sometimes shy, but always open to new experiences.

Today, Bruna’s books have sold more than 85 million copies and been translated into 50 languages. Miffy has also leapt off the pages to become part of fashion, design, plush toys and more.

“Miffy is multigenerational,” Fuerst said. “People enjoy her retro charm – whether they grew up with Miffy or if they are finding her now.”

Part of Miffy’s enduring appeal is that sense of nostalgia and affection for the character, and the calmness her simple design evokes.

“A lot of what Dick Bruna did was really simple – his illustrations have a childlike sense to them. Her face is instantly recognizable,” said Jackie DeMaio, who oversees the Miffy brand in the U.S. and Canada for Joester Loria Group. “We’ve seen some great reaction in other markets and we’re anticipating fans in the U.S. and Canada will love it as well.”

The collection is painted in a palette of summery colors with pinks and greens with bright splashes of colors like poppy red and Starbucks signature green.

“Part of her appeal is her ability to connect with so many people, that can be done in expressive colour,” DeMaio said. “What we’re doing feels natural to the brand in terms of how we connect to our fans.”

DeMaio said that “Starbucks is a bright spot in your day, just like Miffy. Like the little note that baristas write on your cup – it’s another to chance to create whimsy.”

The Miffy + Starbucks collection is available in participating Starbucks coffeehouses in the U.S. and Canada starting May 19, while supplies last. 

Boxed plush

Take home the beloved icon with a special-edition Miffy plush, dressed in a signature Starbucks green apron and boxed for easy gifting. Price: $50.95 

Ceramic mug

The 14-ounce ceramic mug features colourful tulip blooms (a nod to Miffy’s Dutch heritage) and Starbucks iconic hot cups, with Miffy herself perched above on its silicone topper – all tucked inside a keepsake box.  Price: $42.95 

Water bottle 

You can bring Miffy along with you wherever you go with this 27-ounce water bottle in a soft mint green, adorned with graphic stripes and adorable icons. Price: $47.95 

Cold cup 

The 24-ounce cold cup design features a classic Miffy pose – like she’s sitting across from you in a moment of quiet companionship. Topped with a Miffy straw charm. Price: $40.95 

Stainless steel cold cup 

The 26-ounce stainless steel cold cup features a graphic, pop art design unique to the U.S. market in shades of honey, jade green and pale pink. Price: $47.95 

Stainless steel tumbler

Large-scale icons dance across the design for the 18-ounce stainless steel tumbler, accented with a bright pink top. Price: $40.95
